The list I cannot beat!

So, I was on a bit of a roll as of late, getting in a few games and getting a good chunk of victories. Then comes the list which I cant ever, ever seem to beat with my list... I used the 1500 point list I described below (Khan led), and faced up against the wall of walkers... 9 eldar war walkers, 6 of them pumping out 8 S6 shots each, and 3 with missile launchers and lances, an avatar, a farseer and some "other things". Not only is 48 S6 shots a turn impossible to defend against, but they get to reroll their misses with guide casted on them with the farseer.

It was spearhead deployment, kill points, and he got to go first. Lets just say after the first round of shooting, I had lost all my transports and footslogging it would turn out to be a very painful option. Im not really sure what tactic I could have used against this list, however Ill be pondering the next few days... Ever step forward I took, he took one step back, all while firing a wall of shots at me. Fell free to chime in (granted, im not looking for an army list to beat this one, as I cant craft that, but how can I beat this list with MY list...)

Lastly, take a look at the poll to the right. As I stated last time, I was really surprised at the distribution of folks favorite SM chapter. All the love is going to the Black Templar's and Blood Angels, with a few other Raven Guard fans out there too.

With your current list, I think you have your work cut out for you.. He has massive long-range firepower, while you seem to have almost none.

I would probably try putting everything in reserve, deep striking most everything that you can - perhaps even the assault marines, if you can find a good spot. Maybe then you could bring on stuff like the assault terminators and dreadnought before the more vulnerable transports, forcing him to deal with the termis and hopefully ensuring that your tac squads can make it a little way across the board before being massacred.

It's not guaranteed to work, but you give yourself a bit more durability and a chance to panic the opponent with scary stuff arriving on his doorstep.

Seriously though, get ye some long-range anti-tank stuff as soon as you can. Good hunting!

I agree with Testudo that your lack of long range light antitank is giving you an issue with a walker heavy list armed with scatter lasers.

That said, advancing steadily so that he can just back up and keep you at optimum range is clearly going to be a loser.

Don't play his game. I believe that even dedicated transports count as separate units for the purposes of deployment, so if there isn't sufficient cover leave them in reserve. Deploy your tactical squads behind hard cover and wait for him to come to you so the range is more favourable. Use your predator to punish him if he dithers and hopes you'll come to him.

My priority would be to deal with the farseer. and I would deepstrike the termies to wipe him out. The warwalkers are only WS3 so they do need those rerolls.

Your Dreadnought could possibly close assault warwalker units to destroy them. I don't think they can even glance it in close combat so deep strike the drop pod so that the dreadnought can use it as cover then next turn charge the war walkers. If you drop behind the walkers they won't want to move away or they'll come in range of your main force.

I know you want to keep your list intact but its worth noting that because it is open topped an outflanking landraider storm loaded with scouts can assault the same turn they enter the board which is an advantage over your current deepstrikers as once they are in CC they can't be shot. Also the LS can carry a heavy flamer to assist in the assault (although it will almost certainly die thereafter).

Well, I have to say this is the reason I blog about the hobby. Getting insights as these from you all is making me a much, much stronger player. Thanks for the feedback guys/gals, I appreciate it!!! Do you guys blog or host a hobby site?

If you go with testudos idea, deep strike your assualt units first, then assault the units which will do the most shooting damage to the rest of your army, with very little dangerous stuff to shoot, youll be on his doorstep in a turn or two before he can take that step (or two) back.
