Sanguinary Priest - How to Build 2 with Apothecary

So, I decided to tackle the first of my two Sanguinary Priest this weekend, and here is it (thought I did fix the bent helmet antenna - i still have to paint the power weapon too). Now, as youll notice, I didnt use all the components from the apothachary which comes in the SM command squad. Im hoping to stretch the components to make a second Sang. Priest.

Sang Priest 1 (above) - Apoth backpack and torso with company champ shoulder pad and commander helmet
Sang Priest 2 - Apoth backpack (got that off ebay), apoth arm, apoth helmet and apoth shoulder pad, company champ torso and shoulder pad. Hopfully the second Sang Priest will look similar to the first, so they are congruent in appearance (thought not exactly the same). They will share red bodys with white helmets and company champ should pads. I should have the second priest up soon so youll be able to take a look at that.

So here is the official RAS #1 (I will however be replacing some of the components with those from the death company sprues I ordered last weekend - such as the helmets, torsos, shoulder pads, chain swords... yeh, go get yourself a d.company box set if your a BA player (has like 18 shoulder pads in it! - see in white dwarf)).

Next Up - begin my freehand work on the transports - jawaballs style!

The "IT" BA unit ! BA Codex Review

Well, I just finished painting what will be the first of either 2 or 3 of these "RAS" squads (Razorback Assault Squad). And if your a blood angels player, I suggest you do the same. For the price of about 175 points (get the codex to see the actual cost), you get yourself a 5 man squad with a power weapon sergeant, a melta gun, in a fast razorback with a twin linked las cannon!

Now, it only gets better from here... Why did I make it a 5 man squad instead of a 6 man squad you ask? Well, I need to leave room for a Sang. Priest of course. From what I gather, a solid 50 points buys me a Sang Priest (elite, indep char.) which grants my squad Furious Charge & Feel no Pain... Throw on a Power Weapon for a Sang Priest and I have myself a nice little unit it.

The next best part - Starting these fast tanks from reserve. Move on 12" and still fire the Lascannon.

More to come next post with how I will be building my BA Army, How I will use Reserves with this Army (think Razorback w./ Lascannon, Baal Pred), and why I think perhaps I may use Astorath the Grim as my HQ (over Sang Priest units)

The Last Chaplain?

Im hoping that the release of the Blood Angels revives my favorite HQ unit in the 40k universe - The Chaplain. Im just begining to read "Rynn's World" (The Black Lib novel about the assault on the Crimson Fists home world by an Ork Waaagh), and the first few pages starts out with a Fist Chaplain inspiring his chapter, enraging them for battle.

Nothing says blood angels to me like a skull helmeted jet packed vampire preaching litanies of battle (as it is the coolest model out there too).

Unfortunately, I just never, ever see the Chaplain anymore. ever. never ever. While Im new to 40K, I know the chaplain was nerfed in the new SM Codex, and will likely be in every oncoming marine codex. I for one, am going to try very hard to find a place in my army for one, as I just think it fits the fluff sooo well (same for you Black Templar players - thought I guess you dont need to re-roll). I for one think that would be a great HQ choice leading my 10 man assault marine squad... I wonder if the black templars will get a Chaplain Dreadnought as the BAs got a librarian dread, hmm....

Ravenguard/B.Templar 4 Sale & BA update

Well, first and foremost, I did put up a few of my Ravenguard units up on eBay, so if your interested check them out. I think youll be able to get them for a great price:

My Beloved Ravenguard Dreadnought:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180479229816&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

A Ravenguard Rhino:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180479231050&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

Now, as for the blood angels, progress is resuming. Without seeing the codex, Ive painted up a nice base army which I will likely use and my backbone to expand upon once I get my hands on the codex. At this point, I have 10 assault marines with jump packs, 10 tactical marines, a drop pod, rhino, razorback, predator and dreadnought ready to rock (still need to paint dreadnough and predator).

Now, with those core I plan on running:

10x Tactical squad - Combat Squad with Lascannon; Sergeant w./ Powersword, combi melta, meltagun, razorback (may switch to flamers from meltas)

10x Assault Squad - Powerfist, Meltagun

Dreadnought in drop pod - No idea what variant I will run

Predator - Las/Autocannons

2x Attack Bikes - H.Bolters or Meltaguns (not sure, but they hang back with the predator to provide cover)

I think this puts me at about 825 points or so, then again Im not certain without yet seeing the new codex...

So, I have about 1025 points left for goodies... Im thinking assault termines, more assault marines or veterans/d.company, 2 baal predators(maybe), another Dread in pod, and finally an HQ... For those of you who have seen the codex, share with me your thoughts... Where do these new marines strengths land? How good are the furioso dreadnoughts over a standard one with multimelta? Will a librarian lead my army? Are veterans really better than their scoring assault marine counterparts (I know Dante makes them scoring, or so I heard, but I don't think ill run a a uber character)?

Return of the lascannon?

Well, im beginning to become convinced that im going to begin to drift away from multi-meltas in favor of lascannons... It began with this article on Bell of Lost Souls and continued with this line of thinking:

What If I went with a predator destructor pattern tank with lascannons (autocannon, 2x lascannons) instead of my beloved predator with heavy bolters? How would I fire off my wall of lead at those pesky bugs and orks? Well, decided to get a little creative and thought of the las predator with 2x land speeders each with 2x heavy bolters (a solid 12 S4 AP4 shots for 120 point). Yeh, that'll do it... Speeders provide that tank a nice 4+ cover when they start out in front of it...

Anyway, the point of this article was to challenge you, the 40K gamer into thinking a little more outside the box. With the dawn of this new uber skimmer in the blood angels codex which is immune to melta, I began to think, is melta loosing its way?

Think about it, there are easily half the armies in the game in where melta guns are a poor option against. Elder are basically immune, its overkill for dark eldar and orks given the open topped vehicles, and the nids dont have armor, and im not that concerned about tau armour... Hmm, ok, so what about the rest?

Well, against IG and SMEs, melta is excellent for taking out armor and transports (except the new immune to melta Blood Angel skimmer, yah!)... The only problem is there are likely 2 melta gun shots coming back at you the next turn (those chimera veterans sqaud combos or the melta/combi melta space marine squards), so that speeder, attack bike or dreadnought it likely a goner. And here in lies my thought, the point of that sacrificial deep striking speeder was to take out the chimera anyways to reveal the tender insides... Why not do it from the safety of 48 inches away and keep my vehicle?

Well, its good to be posting again, as I moved to a new apartment. I have been busily painting away my new blood angels and am excited after reading more about the confirmed dex earlier this weekend on BoLS.

Lastly, I will be selling of some of my painted raven guard army, anyone interested? Selling off the deadnought below, a command squad, rhino and combat squad. More to come..

Come on, its to beautiful for me to strip down and paint blood red, there has to be a buyer somewhere...
